  • Two main materials used by Progetto Legno in the production of wooden houses have the greatest impact on thermal comfort: Laminated Timber and wooden fiber insulation.

  • The wood used for a house construction has already a good thermal insulation as well, the thermal conductivity coefficient is much lower than cement, steel or brick.

  • When it is crossed by a heat stream, wood has a thermal resistance that is 300-400 times higher than that of steel and 7-10 times higher than that of concrete.

  • Thermal insulation is mainly made of wood fiber with a total thickness of 160 mm, in exterior walls, and in the roof. In this way, apart from thermal insulation, there is also excellent sound insulation.

  • Thanks to the excellent insulation properties of the two materials,Progetto Legno wooden wall system has the thermal transfer resistance equivalent to that of a 100cm thick brick wall.

Reduced Manufacturing Phase

  • Our construction system takes some stages that ultimates, lead to exceptional money saving compared to a classic home.

  • In addition, our timber passes through a machine-cutting in the factory, that is, in dry conditions, perfectly controlled, in the shelter of the weather. It is then packed and transported to the costumer’s construction site, where the house’s foundation is already done.

  • Thanks to the best technology used, the time needed to fabricate a house’s walls, with an area of about 100 m2, is up to 7 days at the factory.

  • The time that takes to set up the house is 30 days, depending on the complexity.

  • A big advantage is that assembling a prefabricated house can be done in any season, at any outside temperature, as the construction is not affected by bad weather conditions.

  • Under these conditions, the “turnkey” home can be completed within 60 days of the beginning of the work and does not last 3-4 times more, as in the case of a classic construction.

High Antisism Resistance

  • Progetto Legno’s wooden walls with their static self-supporting structure consist on a laminated timber wooden beams frame, which ensure elastic behavior of the structure as a whole, avoiding the concentration of the efforts that are dissipated.

  • The low sismic risk is ensured by the elasticity of wood and metal grip elements.

  • All houses made by Progetto Legno are calculated for resistance to atmospheres of at least 8 degrees on the Richter scale, that means an horizontal gravitational acceleration of 0.16 and a response time (Tc = 0.7).

Fire Resistance

It is necessary to dispel the prejudice on the low durability of wood and that a building using such material is more dangerous than a masonry brick.
It has been shown that laminated timbers and solid wood have a resistance even superior to masonry and concrete structures. Tests on the fire resistance of wooden structures were carried out in both Japan in 2007 and at the European Institute of Wood in Vienna.

These experiments have proved that wood structures are better at high temperatures due to their mechanical properties of strength significantly better than those built in traditional buildings.

Wood is a bad heat conductor, it creates a natural insulation that provides regular and stable environmental microclimate conditions and does not slip and without notice.

This is possible thanks to the reduced thermal expansion, which allows the wood to deform very little if exposed to fire and to zero harmful emissions if the wood is not treated.

Moreover, firewood produces a carbonized surface that slows the propagation of the combustion by creating a shield for the inner part, thus preventing the inner section from burning, except in very long times.

This is a demonstration of how sustainable and quality construction can provide high levels of safety not only in terms of seismic resistance, but also in case of very serious fire.

Eco-Friendly House

  • Bioarchitecture is a new concept in Italy, but in several European countries it is quite old. Although in Italy there have been wooden or brick houses for many centuries, so to reach the standards of an ecological home is still long but not impossible.

  • Maintenance costs are much lower than a large traditional home, down from around €300,00 a month, in the case of a common home with gas heating, less than €50,00 a month, when it comes to an eco-friendly home.

  • Another feature of the ecological house is its construction with environmentally friendly and recyclable materials. Wood is a 100% natural, 100% recyclable material, which does not pollute the environment either during commissioning or during the manufacturing process.

  • All the materials used for the construction of wooden houses have been carefully selected by specialists following extensive research, representing the optimal solutions in this regard.

  • Wood used by Progetto Legno is entirely carried by the Austrian forests, being dry and treated in accordance with the highest standards in the industry.

  • The main quality of wood from a structural point of view is its drying in special furnaces, after which it is brought to humidity of 12-18%, which eliminates the possibility of cracks.

  • Layered laminated timber, used for floors and roofs, offers the possibility of creating larger openings of habitable spaces without the need for intermediate columns in the premises and at the same time the possibility of casting the concrete hood over the floor beams without the effect of their curvature.

  • The material that is mainly used for wall lining outside the house are OSB type 3 panels, with a 15 mm of thickness, having hydrophobic and flame retardant properties, but also stiffness of the main structure by using ripstop nails shot with special instruments.
