X-Lam or Cross Lam is a multilayer plywood consisting of overlapping layers of structural wooden lamellas (remarkable mechanical strength) with a variable thickness between 16 and 35 mm combined head against the head, the direction of the lamellae of one layer is orthogonal to that of the lamellas Of the adjacent layer so that this cross arrangement can give the panel an excellent mechanical behavior in all directions and excellent dimensional stability characteristics.
The X Lam production system has a very low environmental impact because its production uses reduced quantities of electricity and percentages of binder much lower than those used for traditional lamellar wood; But this is not the only aspect that makes X Lam a very interesting material for those who are sensitive to environmental sustainability and energy saving issues, as there are at least two other arguments in favor of this construction material: the first concerns the economical saving, as this material blends well with the prefabrication technique and consequently with quick assembly; moreover, due to its physical properties it is particularly suitable for the construction of passive building systems, which saves not only during the construction phase, but especially in the management and certainly also in the decommissioning. A second order of reason, certainly of great interest, is inherent to the seismic resistance of the buildings; Wood has always been exploited for its good behavior against earthquake-induced stresses, and the X Lam constructional system has been tested internationally, and it is also very efficient in case of high-magnitude earthquakes.
With this system, it is possible to realize multi-storey constructions of all types of architectures, obtaining excellent performance and adequate responses to the requirements normally required for a building from Eco-Friendly Construction. These constructions are distinguished by their excellent thermo-hygrometric behavior, acoustic insulation, construction speed, resistance to strong earthquakes, and fire protection.
It is an ecological constructive system, and with the right attention in designing the construction details together with the proper construction of the works on the site, they can last well beyond the life expectancy of a building.

ADVANTAGES OF A XLAM HOUSE
In lamellar wood, the combustion takes place slowly thanks to the thermal insulation made by the carbonized carbonate layer. Combustion therefore results in a reduction of the material but not of its mechanical properties.
Unlike other materials, lamellar wood does not have sudden falls, construction does not suddenly collapse, but slowly and gradually. Lamellar wood structures can therefore have even more fire resistance than steel or reinforced concrete structures.
Lamellar wood has excellent anti-seismic performance thanks to the excellent ratio of specific weight to static strength. The extraordinary lightness of the material (5 times lighter than concrete, armed, and 15 times lighter than steel) and its high mechanical strength allow to contain seismic stresses. The prefabricated wooden houses, both chassis and full wall, fully comply with the anti-seismic regulations and represent more than a constructive alternative to the tradition of concrete and steel.

Wood as a material offers a high living comfort contributing for an acoustic and thermal insulation properties, the ability to create large louvers without support pillars, as well as the opportunity to open large windows on roofs, with natural daylight benefits and more space.
